“The inspiration behind my artwork for the Festival is simple –
I have always loved when spring arrives and the cherry blossoms bloom.”

– Peter Max

In 1912, Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo bestowed an incredible gift of 3,000 cherry trees on the city of Washington, DC. Every year since, for one hundred years, the National Cherry Blossom Festival has continued to draw crowds to our nation’s capital. Today, more than a million people visit Washington, DC to admire the blossoming cherry trees and attend events that herald the beginning of spring.

This year’s Centennial Celebration will be a 5-week spectacular, from March 20 – April 27, 2012. World-renowned artist Peter Max has been named the Official Artist of the Centennial Celebration, creating the dynamic 2012 commemorative poster in his iconic style. His one-of-a-kind artwork captures the vivid experience and essence of the Festival.
