Park West Gallery Presents the New Anatole Krasnyansky Book to the Hermitage Museum

Written by Park West Gallery Director Morris Shapiro

krasbook 002I recently had the privilege of presenting a copy of the new Anatole Krasnyansky book to the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia. Nearly 80 Park West collectors accompanied me to this momentous event in July—all part of a special art collector’s cruise hosted by Park West aboard the Celebrity Constellation. The Hermitage’s Head Administrator Svetlana Suprun and Administrator Lidia Komissarova were there to accept the book on behalf of the museum.

Anatole Krasnyansky, a Ukrainian-born American artist, worked at the Hermitage as a young architect. Several illustrations of his projects appear in the new 349-page hardcover book, published by Park West Press. The book chronicles Krasnyansky’s life and artwork, with an introduction written by me and an article by noted art historian, Eleanor Hight, Ph.D. It also includes a fully-referenced catalog raisonné of the artist’s graphic works, spanning over 35 years.

I was honored to write the introduction to the book, and to have it accepted into the library of one of the greatest museums on earth is an amazing privilege and high point of my career. I am so happy for Anatole Krasnyansky, who has worked tirelessly his entire lifetime creating his artwork, and who now has this further accolade added to his impressive accomplishments.

Happy Birthday Anatole Krasnyansky – Park West Gallery Art Giveaway

***This contest has now ended. The winner will be posted below, and thank you to all who entered!***

“[Krasnyansky’s] art is characterized by dualities;
old world and new, history and imagination,
hazy architectural forms and sharply defined performers,
subtle tonalities and intense primary colors.
His scenes of old Europe juxtapose against his highly imaginative,
harlequin-like figures floating in space.
Though seeming worlds apart, the dual subjects and styles
of Krasnyansky’s art pay homage to…his roots..
.”
—ELEANOR HIGHT, Ph.D., Assistant Professor,
University of New Hampshire

Park West Gallery Artist Series Presents: Anatole Krasnyansky

Anatole Krasnyansky, Street Quartet, Park West Gallery Fine Art Collection“Street Quartet” by Anatole Krasnyansky | Park West Gallery Collection

Park West Gallery Artist Series Presents: Anatole Krasnyansky
Bordering on the surreal, Anatole Krasnyansky’s figures never depart from the recognizable. Altogether new in form, they contain echoes of the artist’s Eastern heritage, the Cubist ideas of Picasso and Braque and the modernity and energy of American culture.

In the following video exclusive, Park West Gallery CEO Albert Scaglione talks to Krasnyansky about his background, influences, painting styles, the evolution of his two signature themes and what the artist hopes to convey through his artwork.

Park West Gallery Kicks Off a Season of Giving

PARK WEST GALLERY, through our philanthropic initiative Park West Gallery CARES, has already begun fulfilling our commitment to giving back this holiday season. On Saturday, December 4, Park West Gallery helped spread some holiday cheer by sponsoring Help a Child Foundation of Florida′s 3rd Annual Holiday Party to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

(Click the player above to view event photos)

The Help a Child Foundation’s 3rd Annual Holiday Party included a silent auction featuring framed artwork donated by Park West Gallery. Works by some of today’s most popular contemporary artists, such as Itzchak Tarkay, Linda Le Kinff, Emile Bellet, Simon Bull and Anatole Krasnyansky, were included in the auction, with all proceeds going to benefit St. Jude’s.

Park West Gallery’s generous donation of framed artwork for our silent auction was a significant part of our Winter Holiday fundraising event for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital,” said Mercy Sauer, co-founder and director of the Help a Child Foundation of Florida. “There was tremendous ‘buzz’ created by having the work so artfully framed and on display for everyone to see.  The bidding was fierce between the attendees, spurred on in no small part by the quality and beauty of the individual pieces.  We are very grateful to have Park West Gallery as a partner in Help a Child’s efforts to support the important work of St. Jude Hospital.”

“It has been an honor to work alongside my friends Ron and Mercy Sauer and their foundation, Help a Child Foundation of Florida,” said Maria Marsh,  Park West Gallery’s Director of Shipboard Operations. “Through  a series of events we have been successful in raising funds to support local and national organizations dedicated to benefit the physical and emotional health of children. On behalf of Park West Gallery, we were honored to join with Help a Child Foundation for their 3rd Annual Holiday Party benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The event was a resounding success thanks to the donations of Park West Gallery and community supporters.  This is another example of Park West Gallery’s commitment to helping people in need and benefiting organizations that are making a difference locally, regionally and throughout the world.”

Throughout 2010, Park West Gallery CARES has donated artwork, fine art books and clothing to select community organizations in southeast Michigan and southeast Florida, where Park West Gallery has locations, as well as to organizations nationwide.

If your charitable organization is interested in hosting an event at Park West Gallery or you would like to suggest a nonprofit that would benefit from a Park West Gallery CARES donation, please email marketing@parkwestgallery.com.
