tim yanke, park west gallery, olhsaWhen Birmingham-based neo-southwest artist Tim Yanke teamed up with 504 of  Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency (OLHSA)’s Head Start preschoolers, creativity, laughs and a new appreciation for the simple fun of art were unleashed. The tangible result – 16 pieces themed in the four seasons – will be offered in a silent auction at an upcoming exhibition and fundraiser ‘Four Seasons, 504 Reasons.’

Tickets are now on sale for this after-work soirée, to be held on Thursday, November 29, from 6 to 8 pm at Park West Gallery in Southfield.

Event goers will enjoy a mix and mingle atmosphere among some of the Detroit area’s finest art, appetizers, drinks and musical entertainment. The crowd will hear from some of the miniature painters themselves as they share in their own words what the experience of painting with Tim meant. Proceeds from the event will support OLHSA in its efforts to empower struggling families in Oakland and Livingston Counties.

“’Four Seasons, 504 Reasons’ is the culmination of a meaningful year at OLHSA’s Head Start,” said Ronald B. Borngesser, OLHSA CEO. “This inspired partnership has unlocked the creative potential that lies within every child, and we’re proud to unveil the final result to the community.”

Throughout 2012, Tim Yanke graciously donated his time to enriching the lives of OLHSA’s Head Start preschoolers, aged three to five years, by visiting once per quarter to paint the season-themed pieces. All 504 Head Start students participated in the paintings. Art supplies were donated by Park West Gallery.

“Let’s pack the house at Park West and find each of these paintings a fine home,” said Tim Yanke. “OLHSA helps thousands of kids and families every year. When I think of the energy and curiosity the preschoolers showed, and the good work this organization does, I feel thrilled to give back and be part of it all.”

Tickets are priced at $125 each with sponsorship opportunities starting at $250. To purchase tickets and for more information, visit www.OLHSAYanke.EventBrite.com or call (248)-209-2623.

MIAMI, Fla. (Aug. 4, 2012) — Norwegian Cruise Line today revealed Norwegian Breakaway’s signature hull artwork designed by pop icon and America’s most popular living artist, Peter Max. This is the first time Norwegian has commissioned a well-known artist to paint the hull artwork on one of its ships. Launching in April 2013, Norwegian Breakaway will be the largest ship to homeport in New York City year-round. Max’s signature artwork will cover approximately 40,000 square feet of Norwegian Breakaway’s hull.

“While it has been an honor to have my art exhibited in museums and galleries, I have also enjoyed creating giant ‘canvases’ for public view, including my 600 ft. Woodstock stage, a giant World’s Fair mural, the body of a Continental 777 super jet, and now, the hull of Norwegian Breakaway,” said Peter Max from his New York studio. “The artwork is a composite of New York City and cosmic imagery— the Statue of Liberty, the Manhattan skyline, a giant sunburst, planets, stars, and musical notes. That’s my New York! And now Norwegian Breakaway is my New York cruise ship ‘canvas.’”

“Norwegian Breakaway is New York’s ship and this colorful artwork by Peter Max will make the ship an instant icon,” said Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian Cruise Line’s chief executive officer. “The Big Apple is known for its love of art and its many galleries – and now, Norwegian Breakaway becomes a floating piece of art that will cruise in and dock every Saturday on New York’s West Side. With this distinctive design, unlike anything else on the water, the ship will be recognizable to the millions of New Yorkers who will see her as she journeys up and down the Hudson River each week.”

One Event, Four Fairs: The 53rd Annual Ann Arbor Art Fair

the ann arbor art fair logo, park west galleryIt may be one of the hottest summers on record, but artists and art enthusiasts from all over the world are gathering in the streets of downtown Ann Arbor this week for one of Michigan’s favorite annual events – the Ann Arbor Art Fair.

This year’s 53rd Ann Arbor Art Fair consists of four independent award-winning art fairs (The Original, the South University Art Fair, the Summer Art Fair and the State Street Area Art Fair) in one, and will exhibit the work of more than 1,000 artists. Now through Saturday, fair-goers can “meet the artists, enjoy the city and soak up the experience” at this highly anticipated event.

As a Michigan-based arts advocate, Park West Gallery’s mission aligns with what the Ann Arbor Art Fair also strives to accomplish — to connect artists with the public in an exciting way and to increase art appreciation in the community. The fair exposes more than 500,000 people to art each summer, so, much like with our newly launched MIGreatArtist contest, emerging artists will be given a unique opportunity to showcase their creativity to a considerable audience.

The Park West Gallery crew is excited to visit the art fair this weekend! Will we see you there?

International Artist Dominic Pangborn Creates Permanent Installation for New Marlins Park Baseball Stadium

MIAMI, Fla. – This past March, international artist Dominic Pangborn participated in the historic grand opening of the new Miami Marlins ballpark. Construction of the stadium was completed at the end of March, just in time for Opening Day in April. Marlins Park is located in the Little Havana neighborhood of Miami, just west of downtown. Seated on the historic 42-acre site of the Orange Bowl, it features state-of-the-art amenities like a retractable roof and a 21st century contemporary style.

When Dominic Pangborn was approached by the director of the stadium’s operations (familiar with his work) he agreed that this would be a very unique and exciting opportunity to exhibit to the Florida community.

The Park West Gallery artist chose to highlight 10 years of Marlins’ history, designing a piece 10 ft. high x 40 ft. long x 4 ft. deep. Pangborn’s largest public piece to date, the work is created from vinyl transferred onto aluminum and is viewable from the stands, as well as home plate, the pitcher’s mound, first base and right field.

The Pangborn installation has become the main artistic highlight in the stadium. It’s featured on the official stadium tour and is located on the main mezzanine level above the concessions.
