SCOTT JACOBS ALSO WORKS with Park West Gallery. Founded in 1969 by Albert Scaglione, the company conducts art auctions through the U.S. and Canada, and on cruise ships through its affiliate Park West at Sea.
Park West [Gallery] has been selling his work for seven years. “It is one of the best experiences.” The way they educate clients is impressive, says Jacobs, who is not exclusive with them.
“I can take a hand-pulled etching and offer it to my clients and I may sell two, but Park West [Gallery] can sell 18 because their clients are educated and they know how it was made. The education they give is huge.”
Sometimes, he says, his artwork will sell for more, and sometimes less at an auction. But he feels the prices achieved do not affect his gallery market because he does separate images for Park West [Gallery], or they are older images or a different size.
“We don’t want them to compete,” says Jacobs. “We try so hard to help galleries. They are very important to any publisher and we understand the value of wall space. We only give galleries images that are not available on cruise ships.”
Overall, he finds the exposure his art gets on cruises is highly beneficial. “We get so many more hits on our website from people who have been on cruises than for any other reason.”
