Park West Gallery CARES Continues Partnership with Douglas High

Park West Gallery donates additional works to support the school’s arts in education programming

WINSTON, OR – Like most of America, Winston, Oregon has been hit hard by the downturns in the economy.  However, unlike many other schools, Winston’s Douglas High School has been able to maintain a thriving arts program for its students.  Impressed with the school’s dedication to arts in education even in bad economic times, Park West Gallery donated five works of art by Thomas Kinkade through its philanthropic Park West Gallery CARES initiative to the high school with hopes of furthering and supporting the school’s art programming.

This donation follows a previous donation of 20 works by various Park West artists and a lecture by artist Dominic Pangborn in November 2010.  Douglas High School was able to auction works of art by Thomas Kinkade from the previous donation and use the proceeds to purchase art supplies and materials including: shelving, drying racks and containers for art storage and an opaque projector.

“Thank you for these gifts for our art program!  I am in awe and speechless with Park West Gallery’s generosity.  Just the idea of someone remembering our struggling little school is an amazing concept for the students and me.  We are extremely thankful and appreciative of these donations.  It feels so good to check—rather than cross—much needed supplies off my list, and we are only able to do so because of Park West Gallery,” declared Debbie Cusack, Douglas High School’s art teacher.

“We are committed to keeping the arts alive in our schools,” said Stoney Goldstein, executive vice president of Park West Gallery.  “We realize that budgets are being crunched and funding for the arts is drying up, and we’re simply stepping up to the plate to do our part.  Park West Gallery is very impressed and inspired by Winston and by Douglas High School’s dedication to keeping arts in education for their students.  The arts allow our children to be creative, which in turn helps develop critical and forward thinking skills.  Kids feel a sense of pride and ownership of the artwork they create and develop the ability to think outside of the box.  We recognize that the arts provide a foundation for innovation.”

Launched in July 2010, Park West Gallery CARES initially limited its outreach to organizations in the Detroit, MI and Miami, FL areas where Park West Gallery has physical locations.  However, due to its monumental success, Park West Gallery has decided to extend the initiative to communities throughout the United States.  Douglas High School is one of many organizations that have received similar donations and artist talks provided by Park West Gallery CARES.  Other recipients include the Lake Geneva Public Library in Lake Geneva, WI, the Youth Arts Corp. in St. Petersburg, FL, the City of Clayton’s public art program in Clayton, MO, St. Mary’s Interparochial School in Philadelphia, PA, The International School in Bellevue, WA, Goethe School in Chicago, IL and the Woodbridge Public Library in Iselin, NJ.

If you know of a charitable organization in your community that would benefit from Park West Gallery CARES, please send your suggestions to pwgcares@parkwestgallery.com.

Park West Gallery Donates Art to Best Buddies South Beach Fundraiser

On Thursday, September 16, Park West Gallery donated seven works to Best Buddies of Florida for a local fundraiser. The silent auction was part of Best Buddies of Florida’s Business Buddies networking event held at the W Hotel in South Beach.

Best Buddies of Florida, Park West Gallery“Uptown” by Romero Britto (shown above) was among the works of art donated by Park West Gallery to the Best Buddies fundraiser held in South Beach on Sept. 16.

The Park West Gallery donation included artwork from some of our most popular contemporary artists, including Alfred Gockel, Romero Britto and Thomas Kinkade. Additionally, four animation cels were donated. The donated items raised funds for Best Buddies of Florida, with all proceeds going to support local Best Buddies programs in the Miami area.

“Best Buddies is a great organization,” said Sam Cabral, Director of Merchandising for Park West Gallery. “The Business Buddies program helps raise awareness of the organization and its mission within the local business community. We were thrilled to have an opportunity to help out with this donation.”

The Michigan Chronicle Features Park West Gallery Donation

Park West Gallery donates clothing, art to Grace Centers of Hope
Michigan Chronicle/DETROIT (Sept. 8-14, 2010) – Grace Centers is one of six Metro Detroit nonprofit organizations benefiting from Park West Gallery‘s generosity this summer. Locally, the other organizations are Capuchin Soup Kitchen, Covenant House, Detroit Rescue Mission, HAVEN of Oakland County and Vista Maria. Organizations in southeast Florida where Park West has additional locations also received merchandise.

Park West owners Albert and Mitsie Scaglione have a longstanding relationship with Grace Centers of Hope. In 2008, they donated more than $25,000 to the nonprofit towards its Men’s Dorm Renovation Project. This generous gift spearheaded Grace Center’s fundraising campaign for the project. The renovation of the men’s dorm, which now houses emergency clients separately from residential ones in a dignified and uplifting setting, was completed with additional funding from other sources.

The nonprofit not only provides temporary shelter, food and clothing, but also conducts one-year and two-year programs to help men, women and children overcome the reasons they are homeless, such as addiction and abuse, and move forward positively with their lives. One hundred percent of this new clothing will go to the Grace Centers of Hope Thrift Stores. Monies raised by selling the merchandise in the stores will benefit the organization’s programs and services.

The same day as the clothing donation, Park West also gave Grace Centers of Hope 11 pieces of art by Thomas Kinkade, a Christian painter, through the foundation. Most of the paintings will go to the homes in Little Grace Village, Grace Centers of Hope’s safe and affordable housing revitalization effort on Seneca Street in Pontiac. Graduates of Grace Centers of Hope’s one year life skills program rent the homes. The other paintings will hang at Grace Gospel Fellowship.

Three of the paintings were displayed in the gallery, ready for packing and loading onto the Grace Centers of Hope truck along with the clothing and the other eight art pieces. One showed an idyllic scene, another a simple cross on top of a hill and the third was Kinkade’s interpretation of the face of Jesus.

Park West Gallery and Grace Centers of Hope will continue working together to help those in need in the community. To donate merchandise and clothing, volunteer or learn more information about Grace Centers of Hope, call (248) 334-2187, or visit www.gracecentersofhope.org.

Acts of generosity such as these are the types of stories that, sadly, all too often fail to make the news – television, print or radio.
